You do! To ensure everyone is climbing safely and aware of the risks in participating in the gym, we require everyone entering the gym (climbers and adults supervising climbing children) to review and sign a waiver.
Of course! Rock climbing is actually one of the most approachable, easy-to-try activities. Also, bouldering-style climbing doesn't require ropes or getting very high off the ground, so you can go at your pace, stay as low to the ground as you like, and get yourself used to climbing gradually as you feel comfortable.
Not at all. Rock climbing is actually a VERY easy sport for first timers, and is also easy for younger/older participants, and anyone who isn't as physically active. There are plenty of climbing routes setup on the wall that nearly anyone coming in the door should be able to handle and get their first climbing experiences on without any big effort.
In our initial iteration (Phase 1), we are a bouldering-only gym, which means we don’t have any walls that require ropes, harnesses, or belay partners. Bouldering is the most simple and approachable type of climbing, requiring only a pair of climbing shoes and a basic safety tutorial for people new to climbing.
If our community is eager for it, we have the option to expand into another space in the building and build out Phase 2, which could focus on higher ropes walls, as well as kids walls and other features!
Bouldering is the simplest and most straightforward type of climbing. No ropes, no harnesses, and a much shorter wall height that keeps you closer to the ground so you can climb at your own pace according to your own skill, strength and style. After signing your waiver and reviewing a brief safety tutorial, you can start climbing within just a few minutes of entering the gym!
To get open and start engaging the community, we're planning to be open 7 days a week from ~6am-9pm.
From there, based on community feedback and utilization by our climbers over our first weeks/months, we'll flex and find the right fit for everyone.
All ages are welcome at the gym after viewing our safety video, signing a liability waiver, and checking in at the front desk.
All spectators must stay off the pads and give active climbers near the wall plenty of space. For those who plan to climb, please follow these guidelines for those under the age of 18:
1 - 8 years old – May climb with an adult spotter during designated kids hours on weekday afternoons and on weekend mornings. This adult parent/guardian/coach must be with the climber at all times and within an arm’s length.
9 - 13 years old – May climb in the entire gym during any open hours with parent/guardian/coach supervision in the immediate vicinity.
14 -17 years old – May climb on their own after completing a Bouldering 101* class and obtaining your parents’ formal authorization and acceptance of your risk.
